3 Bedrooms • 3 Bathrooms 3 Baths • Sleeps 1-8This is our real, actual home, and we only rent it while we're away.
It's big for Mammoth—nearly 1,500 square feet with a comfortable cabin feel. We just finished a year of renovating. We installed new floors and new carpets, repainted everything, installed new toilets, new faucets, new lighting, heaters, thermostats, new electrical panel, etc., etc. Everything works great and looks fresh and clean.
When you book, you are agreeing to be abide by all of our House Rules, including the Additional Rules, so please make sure you find those under House Rules here and read them.
We designed our home to be comfortable, not fussy, and we brought all the furniture and artwork we really love from our previous house in Los Angeles. The main level is a great room, with a big dining area opening onto the living room that features a big southeast window and a view of trees and mountains and the street outside. There are two large sofas, a 55” HD television with cable, Roku, and Netflix, plus my dad’s small mahogany desk if you need to get some work done. The internet connection is very, very fast, with both ethernet and Wifi available.
The excellent working fireplace is clad in stone, and a there's a cord of wood on the upstairs outside deck—half hardwood that burns hot and long and half pine that’s easy to start a fire with.
Downstairs are two large bedrooms, each with en suite full bathroom. The master bedroom has a king bed, two dressers, two large chairs, a large modern TV with cable and Netflix, plus a bathroom with shower.
The guest bedroom has a queen bed (but the antique solid walnut canopy bed if fit for a king or queen!) a large smart Roku TV with HD cable and Netflix, a marble-topped antique dresser, a big clothes closet, and a bathroom with tub/shower. All bathrooms have new forced-air heaters.
We’ve listed our home as three bedrooms because the loft has a queen bed plus two twin bunk beds. It serves as a third bedroom that can accommodate parents with two kids. It also features a large Smart Roku TV with cable and Netflix, plus a lovely blue leather sofa that came from our last house. The bathroom on the main level serves as both powder room and loft bathroom and has a large shower.
We sleep in the loft during the winter. We can see the sun gently coming up in the east from the living room windows, and heat rises up to the loft. In summer, we move down to the guest bedroom because in summer the ground floor is about 10 degrees cooler than the outside. Of course, it averages about 75 F here in summer, so a hot day is maybe 85 F.
It rarely rains in the summer--it’s pretty much always clear and sunny. Winter is a different matter…Mammoth has the most snow, the longest ski season, the biggest mountain…all of that good stuff. But the occasional big storm does bring powder days.
The full kitchen is equipped with range, microwave, dishwasher, disposal, coffee maker, popcorn maker, toaster, blender, electric kettle, French press, cast iron and non-stick skillets, tons of pots and pans and good knives, plus some staples that you’re welcome to use—sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil, etc.
There is a full-sized laundry inside the town home, with a large washer and brand-new large LG dryer. You’ll find detergent, bleach, dryer sheets, and cleaning supplies provided for you on the upper shelf.
Nearly all the painting are originals; the ones that aren’t are signed lithographs by Chagall and others. The bronzes are originals, and the floors are covered with antique hand-knotted Persian rugs.
Outside Amenities: The hot tub and sauna are very near to our unit, plus there's a very pretty swimming pool that’s heated in summer. The grounds are nicely landscaped and green, and under snow in winter. On the front porch there’s a closet with a rack to hold 5 pairs of your skis and poles. You can park up to two vehicles in the outdoor parking lot. Unlike most condo complexes where you must park underground, then drag your suitcases through a dark garage, climb up stairs and walk down a long corridor to get to the door—you can park only about 30 feet from our front door.
Location: We picked this complex not only because it’s super quiet and surrounded by pine trees, but also because it’s only a half-block from the center of town. That’s where you’ll find the Von’s supermarket and pharmacy, the town movie theater, Carl’s Junior, Giovanni's, the best pizza parlor in town, etc. Another half block down Meridian Blvd. is the Mammoth Lakes Business Center and Domino’s Pizza. We wanted a place where we could just walk to whatever we needed, and this is it.
Transportation: You couldn't be more conveniently situated anywhere. At the edge of the driveway is the shuttle stop for Eagle Lodge, and on the corner is the #8 Red Line shuttle stop. It's the free shuttle stop you really want to get if you're going to the Main Lodge on a busy weekend, because it’s only the second stop and you can always get a seat. The Red Line also stops at The Village, where you'll find the Village Gondola carrying skiers and riders up to Canyon Lodge. It's just 20 minutes from stop #8 to the Main Lodge up top. If you're looking for cross country skiing, it's easy to get a shuttle to Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center. But you can also walk or drive over to Shady Rest Park, where there are miles and miles of free groomed cross-country trails that are maintained by the City.
Restaurants: The center of town I mentioned that’s half a block away—the corner of Old Mammoth Road and Meridian—is also the center of most of the restaurants in town. Within an easy walk are Rafters, Jimmy’s Taverna, Red Lantern Inn, The Stove, Giovanni’s Pizza, Blue, the Tavern, Delicious Kitchen, Thai’d Up, Salsa’s Taqueria, Roberto’s Mexican Restaurant, and Mammoth Rock’n’Bowl and Brasserie.
Our rental rates for The Art Gallery are usually about the same as the cookie-cutter condos featuring IKEA furniture, and sometimes higher. We're looking for nice, considerate guests who appreciate our comfortable nest and treat it the way we do.
We welcome you to book with us. We know you’ll love your stay and come back to us next time.
You have access to the entire townhouse
